Bacterial adhesion and competition

The analysis of the interaction between microorganisms and surfaces is crucial for the development of medical devices and antimicrobial solutions. At Service Biotech we study bacterial colonisation mechanisms through high-resolution imaging protocols.

  • Biofilm assessment: we use scanning electron microscopy (SEM) to observe the early stages of adhesion and the formation of extracellular polymeric matrices (EPS).
  • Competition assays: we analyse the dynamics between different bacterial species on specific substrates, identifying patterns of exclusion or co-aggregation.
  • Surface efficacy: we monitor how surface treatments or active coatings influence bacterial tropism.
